In June and July 2023 the SandMap team surveyed approximately 50km of the Hinchinbrook Channel, which runs between the North Queensland mainland and Hinchinbrook Island. The surveyed area is within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and based on the photos that the team took, is extremely picturesque.
The team overcame trade winds, heavy rain, very large shallow zones of drying sand and mud banks, and not least of all crocodiles (especially at launch and retrieval), to deliver the survey for Water Technology Pty Ltd and their client.
The survey was carried out using SandMap’s EdgeTech 6205s2 unit (pictured alongside side scan and bathymetry) to MSQ Standards for Hydrographic Surveys within Queensland Waters Class D.
